Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: B-Destroyer (Toy) I was looking for an rc boat that was different from everything else out there. By choice or chance I came upon the Smasher RC HT-2879, and it's pretty durn cool.
Some good info to remember though. It's not super-detailed museum quality, and it shouldn't be. It's made for fun on the pond. The transmitter range is kind of weak, and the battery definitely doesn't last long. By using two propellers to control direction instead of a rudder it's less than satisfactory. Right from the box one of the motors was less powerful than the other, and since you can only go at full speed or none at all my boat will make large curves across the pond when attempting to go straight. Proper throttle controls or a real rudder would fix this, but then I'm sure it would be more expensive.
It's a cool boat, not like everything else on the pond, but it does leave a lot to be desired.

= Fun: = Educational: This review is from: B-Destroyer (Toy) I purchased one of these from another vender back in 2007 or so. I was surprised by the level of detail; it is more like a scale model than a toy in appearance. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat. It looks very much like a Russian Sovremenny Class DDG in 1/200 scale. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is but with a nice scale model like paint job it is even better.
The boat runs real well forward, reverse, left and right. There is no "throttle" just go or no go. The boat runs well in a small lake and does not get too upset if the water is not glass smooth. There is no steering trim adjustment so it may not run in a real straight line.
It has a neat safety feature: the motors will not run unless the boat is in the water or some other form of conductor touching both propeller shafts. I found this out when bench testing the boat before I used it in... Read more

For the price, it's worth the purchase. The directions are useless, reads like they were translated from Italian to Chinese to English. Actually quite funny. The good news is there aren't many things to put together and it's easy to figure it out. Looks really good in the pool, runs fast, fun to drive. Don't know how long the batteries will last as have only used it twice, but leave in in my home office on display.
