I have experienced about a 15 ft range inside the house depending on battery life. It drives well on hard surfaces but goes very slow or not at all on surfaces like carpet.
We have had fun with it. Our 1 year old likes to chase it and my 3 year old has fun TRYING to drive it with moderate success. I think it is a good starter car to see if there is a lot of interest from someone before buying a much more expensive product.
Also, I think this car could be a good opportunity for someone trying to learn electronics. It is easy to dissassemble and you could add a UBEC (volt controller) to add a LiPo battery pack to it instead of using AAs (upping the voltage a little bit - not sure yet if it would break it or if it would just make it go faster!) -- soldering practice and some fun. You could theoretically even put in a new motor or something but that would probably be a little more difficult.
