*** update 4/26/12 see note below ****
With the seminal 3-channel S107g (and it's Cobra/Marine Heli/rainbow colored variants) now out for over 2 years Syma finally upped the ante with a 4-channel coaxial micro heli.
The 4th channel is for sliding or strafing left and right, which is what real helicopters can do and 3-channel helis can't.
So is the S800g a good choice for those looking to move "up" to 4-channels? Maybe...
The heli itself is a triumph of lightness and clever design. The controller, sadly, is a failure.
For youngsters interested in mechanics and flight it could be a very educational and fun toy. Just about everything is assembled with little screws and a nice screwdriver is even included, so with a little adult help they could take it almost completely apart and learn how gears, batteries, motors, printed circuit boards, LED lights, and airframe structures... Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Syma S800G 4 Channel Remote Control Helicopter with Bonus Parts - Black & White I would love to give this model 5 stars because lets face it, a four channel helicopter that sits in the palm of your hand for $30ish sounds great - and it is, but the 'new' controller is terrible and spoils it - please be aware.
Most people reading this are likely to be either first time buyers/flyers buying for themselves or perhaps their older child (check out the Syma S107G or Syma S111G) or, like me, they are adults (although my wife and kids may argue the point) with a small fleet of these things, eagerly awaiting a new model and if it's four channel - all the better. But don't be too quick to part with your hard earned cash unless you have hands the size of a very small child or have too much cash and want to get rid of some of it. (Unless of course you are a very smal child in which case you may still want to read a little further, and make sure your parents know you are buying rc helicopters!) Lets start with the helicopter,
The good bit!

Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Syma S800G 4 Channel Remote Control Helicopter with Bonus Parts - Black & White I received the Syma S800G in great condition and I am overall very happy with the heli. However I agree with other reviews about the r/c controller for this heli, it is not very good at all. The throttle is very touchy and is difficult to control at first - I am getting a little better with it. The heli itself is tough and can take some punishment (crashes). I would certainly recommend the Syma S800G, but I would emphasize that the controller could certainly be better. Syma S800G 4 Channel Remote Control Helicopter with Bonus Parts! Black & White
