Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Syma S031G Jumbo Sized Gyro 3.5 Ch Metal Coaxial RC Helicopter I ordered an S031G Jumbo helicopter by Syma at the end of 2010 and flew it about six times before hanging it in a tree and smoking (literally) the circuit board and rear motor that drives the lower rotor. The offending component on the circuit board (STD150NH02L-1 MOSFET) would have been easy to replace, but it is not available from the common electronics suppliers in quantities under 3000. Soooo, I am buying parts from the hobby-estore for my rebuild.
This copter is really quite large and I don't think a typical 14 year old (recommended age) would get much out of it before crashing it badly and rendering it unusable. That said, it could make an outstanding learning tool for troubleshooting damage and repairing the device to functional status. This is a great way to learn some mechanical and electronic repair skills.
On my first flight, I was doing superbly until I flew too close to a power line and the copter cut out and plunged about 30' to the ground. It... Read more

Big Disappointment, April 5, 2011 = Durability:

Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Syma S031G Jumbo Sized Gyro 3.5 Ch Metal Coaxial RC Helicopter I own a Syma S107 and love it to death. I've flown it well over 100 times and it is the most rugged, easy to fly chopper on the market. BUT! The S031 is a BIG JOKE. 3 hours to charge for a 4 to 5 minute flight. It handles poorly in the air. In no wind, it has poor forward speed and reponds sluggishly. It will drop for no reason at all. I have smoke coming from it at times and just know somethings starting to burn up. I suspect the circuit board. The blinking side lights already burned out. Yesterday was my 4th flight and disgusting. I came in for a landing and when I was just 6 feet off the ground, it dropped like a rock. I am an expeienced pilot and well seasoned at the age of 58.
I wouldn't recommend this model to anyone. Pro or novice.
