The Avatar Z008 didn't fly quite so easily at first. It was more difficult to maintain altitude. I didn't care for the dead stick throttle. It was too easy to start the thing with blades spinning and then the mad rush to get it under control. I put a heavy rubber band across the controller to hold the throttle stick down. This was a little ugly but effective. The trim for left/right rotation needed some attention for each flight and the additional weight over the S107 made the Avatar drop more quickly than I was used to. Using the outrigger motors was difficult to coordinate with the throttle for level sideways flight because they use the same stick.
I initially felt the S107 simply had the Avatar beat for fun and performance. As I said before, I was wrong! It took approximately 10 flights and my entire perspective changed. Instinctively I was able... Read more

Out of the box I was greeted with a red (not blue) helicopter, which actually looks really good. I was surprised with how solid and well constructed the helicopter feels. It weighs quite a bit for a mini-rc but that doesn't stop it from shooting off to the ceiling when you nudge up the throttle. The Gyro does an excellent job at keeping the cyclic rock solid and the trim for the yaw is super easy. I've yet to charge the thing from the remote, the USB charger is too good! I'm getting a steady 30 minute charge time from empty to full, and the battery lasts 9-11 minutes of flying. The side fans sure are noisy, but the do they trick and I havn't needed to add more throttle when using them over what's normal for tilting a heli off it's axis.

= Fun: = Educational: This review is from: Z008 4-CH Mini Infrared RC Heli with Gyro My Z008 flew perfectly out of the box. I was surprised that charging times were about 18-22 minutes. When a side motor is engaged, you must increase throttle in order to maintain altitude. This took me about 4-5 flights to master. At this point I was amazed at just how maneuverable this micro chopper really is. It is able to outperform my Syma S107 in all categories except durabilty. I flew it for nearly 2 weeks without incident. It suffered what I considered to be a minor crash which broke the main shaft stopper. This is the part the holds the top blades in place along with the connect buckles. I fully realized that obtaining replacement parts for the Z008 was going to be difficult. For one, it is a fairly new product. Also, as 90% of everything, it is made in China. That being said, I have located a source for parts and the link below should help current and future owners. The part I need is still unavailable, but it should be in the near future. It is so much fun that I have... Read more
