Great little RC toy for the price, January 5, 2010 = Durability:
= Fun:

I like this helicopter. It has true 3 axis proportional control. It's durable: it has probably crashed 200 times in the ten hours I've flown it and it's still in new condition. It can be flown indoors: in all those crashes I haven't broken anything yet.
Information: it is very small and light; apparently it won't tolerate a breeze outdoors. The controller takes 4 AA batteries. The controller plugs into the helicopter to charge it. You get about 5 to 10 minutes of flying time for 10 to 20 minutes of charging time.
Downsides: it takes a while to learn to control it. After ten hours I am just now able to fly with only a couple of crashes per flight.
Buyer advisory: only buy RC toys that have proportional control (small input/ small result, large input/ large result). RC toys that aren't proportional are no fun, even for kids, because you can't develop skill.

Superior indoor mini helicopter, March 21, 2010 By = Durability:

The Syma S013 Black Hawk RC Helicopter is by far the best helicopter I've owned and flown.
The aircraft body is a solid plastic with flexible rotor blades with balance bar. The blades give the helicopter stable flight and lift. Flashing red and blue lights give the aircraft an in flight appearance of an emergency vehicle but do not appear to appreciably reduce the flight time.
My only critism is the landing gear which break off after a hard landing, mine have been replaced with salvaged runners off an older model.
Out of the box it is easy to fly with great control. My first flight was in a small room with low ceilings and the helicopter went straight to the ceiling while spinning rapidly. Easing off on the control it dropped down and recovered to stabalize at five feet off the floor and I was able to use the trim to bring it to a stable hoover.
From this attitude it responded well to the controls and flew as commanded. Troubles came... Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase I received the Black Hawk RC today for Father's Day. What a fun toy. My 16 year old son and I have flown it for more than an hour's total flying time today. From the very first take off we were able to have it hover, not hit the ceiling (much), and every time we crash it, which has been often, it survives. By the end of the day we were finally in control and able to make it go (somewhat) where we wanted it to. This is the first RC helicopter we've had so have nothing to compare it with. We did look at a $79 model but user comments said that model damaged easily.
I think the thing that makes this helicopter durable is the rotors are loosely mounted, not rigid, so they simply collapse when they hit something.
This is a very fun toy and it's hard to believe the manufacturer packed an RC helicopter into a $20~ package. One of the fun things we did today was to read the user manual out loud which wasn't easy. Whoever wrote it did not have a firm grasp of the English... Read more
